every second dripping off my fingertips: Headlights on Dark Roads
Friday, June 6, 2008

The words holiday or vacation have related meanings in different English-speaking countries and continents, but will usually refer to one of the following activities or events:

  • A general leave of absence from a regular occupation for rest or recreation
  • A specific trip or journey for the purposes of recreation / tourism
  • Official or unofficial observances of religious/national/cultural/other significance, often accompanied by celebrations or festivities (public/religious holiday)
-Wikipedia

I should be blogging about this perhaps... on the last day? The fact that I foresee the amount of time on my hands in the coming few weeks, I therefore have come to the conclusion that I should blog about it now. But first, like all typical angsty teenagers do nowadays, I must complain.

WHAT KIND OF PERSON HAS A HOLIDAY WITH SO MUCH HOMEWORK?!?!?!

Ok done.

Lets now look at the definition of holiday (provided by Wikipedia, therefore written by like-minded people who also have no holiday, e.g. teenagers)...

The first point, in my opinion is valid (for the average person). For students, it should read -
"A general leave of absence from a regular occupation to an irregular, and hence extraordinary, amount of homework".

The next point is also somewhat valid, but in a more appropriate setting, it should read -
"A specific trip or journey for the purposes of retrieving materials (e.g. textbooks, files) from the locker".

And the last point, well let's not go there.

So I suppose that our teachers have been right all this time when they tell us not to trust Wikipedia.

Now you know...

somewhere a clock is ticking:
11:00 PM
