every second dripping off my fingertips: March 2008
Sunday, March 30, 2008

So... Last night was a big night for all of us. It was Centrestage 2008. The atmosphere was tense as we began at 3pm doing our final runs and practices, touch ups to our set and all. Our play (An MRT Ride) was 1st and I must say, we didn't do very well during our final full run. Screw ups here and there, but true to the nature of every ACSian, we remained positive.

Abhi: We're failing badly (in fact this could be picked up by the mics.. haha)
JY: Yeah but I would rather screw up now than later.
Abhi: So does this mean this is a good sign so that later we'll be better?
JY: Yes...

LOL...

And it turned out to be so. We did perform well later. In fact it was by far our best performance.

I have a few people to thank

  • Lee Jing Yan for that wonderful idea, and script, and keeping us in check most of the time. We couldn't have done it without you.
  • Abhishek Varma for playing Love Guru how it should have been played: by YOU.
  • Edward Bingei for putting so much effort into your character. You did all of us proud.
  • Adeline Ong, who despite all your problems, manage to put in a wonderful performance.
  • Wong Yi Ping, for her valuable advice to our acting etc. We look forward to working with you more in the future.
  • Adam Amil, for helping us in every aspect of rehearsals, from running and prompting lines, to giving good acting advice, and leading us in warm ups.
  • Sam Loo, Anton and Wayren for making our props and flat. You guys deserve best Stage craft (hahahaha)
  • Our make up artists whose names I do not know how to spell (please forgive my stupidity), you made all of us look good on stage. Haha.
  • Our technical staff, Lloyd Soh, Suraj and Yi Wei, ya'll did good with the lights and sounds of the play, and you helped us to bring it alive on all levels.
  • Our Zombies, you guys won best audience interaction, so well done, and thanks for your help in making our play come alive.
  • Mrs Adrianni Tee and Mrs Fanny Tan, for your advice on how we should make our script less R-rated.
  • Mr Ferdinand Quek, for making our play 10 times better on the day before the performance. Your help was very much appreciated.
And of course, God, for without him we would not have been able to put up such a great performance, and by his grace, helped us come up with this brilliant idea.
To God be the Glory, the Best is Yet to Be.

Ok I'll stop being lame now.

Haha..

And congratulations to:
  • Best Play: A Coffee Shop Incident
  • Best Actor/Actress: Luke Wu - A Coffee Shop Incident
  • Best Supporting Actor/Actress: Yvonne Mak - The Wannabe Terrorists Return
  • Best Stage Craft: Shaoyi's 14
Well done peeps. And Kudos to ACS incident. A thoroughly deserved win.
What a night it turned out to be.

Where are we? What the hell is going on?
The dust has only just begun to form,
Crop circles in the carpet, sinking, feeling.
Spin me round again and rub my eyes.
This can't be happening.
When busy streets a mess with people
would stop to hold their heads heavy.

Hide and seek.
Trains and sewing machines.
All those years they were here first.

Oily marks appear on walls
Where pleasure moments hung before.
The takeover, the sweeping insensitivity of this
still life.

Hide and seek.
Trains and sewing machines. (Oh, you won't catch me around here)
Blood and tears,
They were here first.

Mmm, what you say?
Mm, that you only meant well? Well, of course you did.
Mmm, what you say?
Mm, that it's all for the best? Ah of course it is.
Mmm, what you say?
Mm, that it's just what we need? And you decided this.
Mmm what you say?
What did she say?

Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth.
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut-outs.
Speak no feeling, no I dont believe you.
You don't care a bit. You don't care a bit.

(you might not expect this coming from me, judging from my behavior the past few days) i REALLY REALLY wish all the teams good luck.. you all have come this far so give it your best come Centrestage night..

work is seriously piling up.. i have been procrastinating for too long.. haiz i just can't seem to get down to work.. i have English IOP, Econs IA n assignments, Math stuff, Music IAs, Chinese oral.. omg la.. add this together with the stress of life, it is soooo painful..

time to set my priorities right..

lets end with a quote, " He is be genius" - YYH (i think)

wow ok so here's the deal... i can't do any thing for cathecism this sunday because

  1. i got an English commentary to write
  2. i got a Centrestage production to focus on
  3. i got no time at all anyway
so i'm pretty much screwed in a sense... considering how screwed up i've been lately, it only adds to the pains of my stupid life...

damn it la.. this year's council is soooo 'fail'.. i mean, i'm not saying it won't be good, i'm saying it could be better.. n shiru didn't get in... oh wells...

went to TJC today for some music workshop thing organised by MOE.. wahhh so boring la.. i had to use my old cello, which was good but no rubber endpin so i had to make a hole on e TJ stage.. *shhhhhhhhhhh*... AND.. for e 1st time in a long time i saw Letitia again.. lol i din recognise her la, at least until i went nearer to look.. haha.. Gu Wei was like 'yeah' (with a sudden sense of realisation)...

This is not meant to help you with literature
Ok so today started off like any other day. Really. It was just another math lesson, I mean, he always storms out of the class... So, yeah. At least I did some work. But I think the most eventful part of the day was the Council Voting Exercise.

Once again, people vote for people for the wrong reasons. Ok who doesn't, but I hear things like "she's lesbian so I'm not voting for her". What the heck is that??

You jolly well vote for the people you think work hard, work well, can work, and are capable of providing a good mix. Something which can help the council be a good council. (and move forward - for the gazillionth time)

Well actually my idea of a council is not one which can organise great events for the student body and what not (like the previous council, no offence), but provide something more which bonds us, which brings a new spirit to the council, which will eventually transcend a wonderful school spirit.

Ok so it seems a little far-fetched but if it did happen then boy would it be great...

Hmm.. I hope Shiru gets in. Really... This might seem biased but, she has acknowledged that the council needs to change, and she says she will take steps to see this happen. Honestly this process will not involve strategic planning and genius-ly masterminded events alone. It needs to have a good mix of people who can work and people who can carry out the work well. So anyway, good luck to the 3rd Student Council.

This is like the poem mentioned above, where all the fanfare our councilors will receive when things work out is NOTHING... The work behind the scenes normally doesn't get acknowledged. Yes... Like Wilfred Owen, I am anti-council, BUT I'm only like this because of the way council is treated by us as the student body. At some point, if we can actually change the way we look at councilors, and Year 5s for that matter, then maybe the people in their post secondary education might actually break away from the secondary school mindset that we still have. (and secondary school guys won't be so childish)

Oh and then there was Centrestage practice. Like woah man I got new lines (as few as they are). Now it's got PUNCH... Hahahaha.. *Giggles* <---- thats actually one part, which made everyone laugh their ass off, but I thought it wasn't THAT funny... And if Jingyan laughs on that day like he did today, we're quite screwed, although it'd be quite hilarious.

Yups... So that sums up my day, apart from the fact that it always sucks, it was still eventful nonetheless...
